New Zealand v West Indies, Queenstown, 23:00
A wonderful opening partnership of 130 from Jesse Ryder (62) and Brendon McCullum (59) proved the difference for New Zealand as they won the second Twenty20 international against West Indies in Hamilton by 36 runs, thus levelling the series 1-1.
After beginning the tour with a string of low scores, Ramnaresh Sarwan (53) played brilliantly, bringing up his half-century off just 30 balls and looked more like the player that once averaged comfortably over 50.00 in ODIs. However, it proved in vain as West Indies finished short of their target of 192.
Earlier in the day, Ryder and McCullum gave New Zealand the perfect start before the visitors fought back gallantly to restrict the home side to 191 for 9. The two added a whirlwind 130 from just 70 balls, but McCullum's departure signalled the collapse of nine wickets for just 61 runs as West Indies surged back into the match.
McCullum faced 34 balls and hit six fours and four sixes, while Ryder used 41 balls to hit seven fours and three sixes. Both were brutal on anything too full or too short and, ultimately, it was their fireworks that gave the hosts the edge.

South Africa need another 153 runs to overturn two decades of Australian dominance at home after Dale Steyn continued his heroics by earning 10 wickets for the game. Steyn, who took 5 for 87 and then scored 76 in the first innings, backed up with 5 for 67 and was responsible for ending Australia's tiny chance for a series-levelling victory.
Ricky Ponting's almost lone hand of 99 extended the small advantage to 182 and was the only bright spot, apart from Mitchell Johnson's unbeaten 43, on another horrible day for the home side. Australia have not lost a series in their backyard since West Indies toppled them in 1992-93, but if the predicted rain stays away on Tuesday South Africa can dethrone the world champions

MOHALI: India lost a few quick wickets but recovered sufficiently to put themselves in a position to push for an improbable victory on the fifth day though a draw appears to be the likely result in the second and final Test against England on Monday.After bundling out England for 302 in the first innings, the hosts were 44 for three at one stage but accelerated the pace of scoring late in the day to reach 134 for four at close on the penultimate day, taking an overall lead of 285 runs.Opener Gautam Gambhir (44) and Yuvraj Singh (39) were at the crease at stumps on a day which saw England's victory hopes being completely shattered. With just one day left in the match, a draw or an Indian victory appear to be the only two results possible but the hosts have to show more urgency to force a result.

This Test looked like it might never go ahead, and some still argue it's too soon to be playing cricket, but in the end the opening day produced a fascinating start to the short series. Despite a fine century from Andrew Strauss, a brace of wickets apiece for Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan reduced England to 229 for 5 at the close although the surface is threatening to break up later in the game.
Against the odds England controlled the first two sessions and were 164 for 1 at tea after an opening stand of 118. However, India hit back strongly, led by another outstanding display of reverse swing from Zaheer. He removed Ian Bell with the second ball after tea and bounced-out a scratchy and skittish Kevin Pietersen. Andrew Flintoff did well to survive his early trial by spin and swing, and faces a huge role on the second day with nightwatchman James Anderson for company.
Strauss's effort was a remarkable show of concentration. Barring three short innings during the Stanford week, this was his first knock since the end of the English season. He brought up his 13th Test century off 191 balls, but his dismissal late in the day, offering a low return catch to Amit Mishra, put India firmly ahead on points. The four sessions splits confirm how India fought back: 63 without loss, 101 for 1 and 65 for 4.

Yuvraj caused as many moments of discomfort as Harbhajan, who was introduced in the ninth over, or Mishra and had a very close lbw shout turned down against Pietersen. Zaheer, though, claimed a deserved second wicket as Pietersen top-edged a pull which the bowler claimed in his follow-through.
Paul Collingwood retained his place in the side ahead of the in-form Owais Shah, and when your spot is being debated it doesn't help to get a rough decision. Billy Bowden thought he'd got a glove to short-leg off Harbhajan, but he missed it by at least six inches. A lot of the players have spoken about how events in Mumbai have given them a greater perspective, but once the contest is resumed in the middle, instincts take over and the disappointment was easy to detect.

The 118-run opening partnership between Strauss and Alastair Cook was their sixth century-partnership - the pair now average 40.39 in 53 innings - and their fifth in 2008. They've added 883 runs together this year at an average of 55.18 - among opening pairs in 2008 they're second only to Neil McKenzie and Graeme Smith who've added 1395 in 19 innings at 77.50.
Strauss scored 79 of his 123 runs on the leg side. The sweep shot, which he used on 26 occasions, and the flick, each yielded 34 runs.
95 of his runs were scored off spinners - a pretty high percentage of 77.23 - at a run-rate of 3.75. It's the most he's scored against spinners in a single innings, the previous highest being 94 against New Zealand in Napier earlier this year. He was far more restrained against Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma, scoring 28 off 81 balls at a rate of 2.07.

Despite being up against India's formidable batting line-up, England captain Kevin Pietersen expects Graeme Swann to put up a good performance in the first Test which starts on Thursday in Chennai. "It's a decision we've come to because we think it will spin," he said. "We think he's the best and most attacking option.
"We know the Indians are not bad players of spin. But no matter how good you are, you still have to play well on the day. He'll be right at the Indian batsmen. Krejza did well here, and I think Swann's better."
He was confident of the spinner performing well and said he deserved his debut. "He's ecstatic. It's a huge moment for anybody, to win that first Test cap. As a spinner, bowling in India is a huge challenge. But we've seen how Shaggy [Shaun] Udal bowled here on the last tour. When it's your debut game, you'll be buzzing for four or five days."
Pietersen believed England had picked their best XI, though Matt Prior's inlcusion may have raised a few eyebrows. "I told the boys it was one of the most difficults decisions to make. It's a healthy situation when you have the likes of Shah, Amjad and Adil Rashid to put pressure on the places.
"We've also changed the keeper because we feel Matty Prior's a better option with the bat. He's also improved his keeping. I don't think he lost confidence during the one-day series. It was pretty tough for everyone. He wasn't the only one."
Pietersen said the mood within the team was quite upbeat and they were looking to make amends after the 5-0 thrashing in the one-day series. "We're the underdogs, but it's been a distracting time for both teams. The boys are so excited now about playing. We hopped on a plane in Abu Dhabi and came here because the boys love playing cricket in India. At the end of the day, we're professional sportsmen, and when you step on the field, you turn on a little switch and play to your best."
He said while Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh were the players to watch out for, though he suggested England might have a plan for Yuvraj. "There's lots of pressure on Yuvraj as well. It'll be interesting to see how he plays the short ball."

Pietersen said the mood within the team was quite upbeat and they were looking to make amends after the 5-0 thrashing in the one-day series. "We're the underdogs, but it's been a distracting time for both teams. The boys are so excited now about playing. We hopped on a plane in Abu Dhabi and came here because the boys love playing cricket in India. At the end of the day, we're professional sportsmen, and when you step on the field, you turn on a little switch and play to your best."
He said while Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh were the players to watch out for, though he suggested England might have a plan for Yuvraj. "There's lots of pressure on Yuvraj as well. It'll be interesting to see how he plays the short ball."

With less than 24 hours before the fate of England's tour of India is decided, Peter Moores has admitted that both Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison remain concerned about returning to the subcontinent for the two-Test series which begins on Thursday.
England flew back from India after the Mumbai terrorists struck several high-profile establishments. Ever since, the tour's future has been in doubt. But in flying to the halfway-house of Abu Dhabi on Friday, and with their security consultant Reg Dickason assessing the venues in Chennai and Mohali, it is still hoped that the series will go ahead. A final decision will be made once Hugh Morris, managing director of England Cricket, and Sean Morris, chief executive of the Professional Cricketers' Association, return to the players' camp in Abu Dhabi on Sunday
